Downtown Mena, Arkansas
Downtown Mena is a vibrant hub, home to several thriving businesses along Main Street, and an arts district that includes the Mena Art Gallery and the Ouachita Little Theater. The Mena Depot Center, located in a restored 1920 railroad depot, greets visitors with tourism information, art and local history exhibits, and railroad memorabilia. Skyliner Cafe and The Ouachitas are two of our favorite spots for a bite to eat. Janssen Park, a 10 acre city park, features an 1851 log cabin still on its original site. With its picturesque setting, friendly hometown feeling, and numerous outdoor destinations, Mena attracts tourists from all over the world, offering a unique blend of historical charm and modern excitement.
Area Lakes, Rivers, and Falls
The Mena area is rich with lakes, rivers and falls that offer a variety of recreational opportunities. The region boasts five rivers—the Ouachita, Cossatot, Little Missouri, and Mountain Fork—perfect for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, or floating down rapids. The area is also home to five lakes—Lake Wilhelmina, Gilliam Lake, Shady Lake, Iron Forks Lake, and Mena Lake—where visitors can enjoy boating and fishing. A highlight is the Little Missouri Falls (pictured), a stair-step waterfall in a deep gorge, attracting photographers and visitors alike. The falls are accessible via an all-weather gravel road, with parking, restrooms, and a paved trail leading to observation sites. Wolf Pen Gap, just 30 minutes from Hollyview360, offers approximately 41 miles of interconnected looping trails, perfect for varying the length and challenge. These trails feature high mountain vista sites, unique natural formations like the two-legged oak tree, and historical sites such as an abandoned mine shaft. For those who prefer hiking, trails such as Caney Creek, Billy Creek, Big Brushy, and Shirley Creek offer stunning scenic routes through the Ouachita National Forest. This 54-mile paved road stretches from Mena, Arkansas, through Queen Wilhelmina State Park, and concludes in Talihina, Oklahoma. It showcases breathtaking vistas of some of Arkansas’s highest mountain ranges. The byway winds through dense forests and past stunning overlooks, with plenty of spots to pause and enjoy the spectacular scenery. Cyclists can venture onto dirt trails that diverge from the main road, while motorcyclists will love the curving roads and expansive views.
